Models is an exciting new supplementary writing program for elementary students in mainstream or remedial classrooms who need carefully structured, sequential materials. It provides the instruction-in-writing component for any pre-existing writing program.
Models helps ease students into writing naturally and easily with a host of activities. It focuses on the skills and strategies needed for writing building vocabulary, sentences, and paragraphs; learning about sequencing; using descriptors; and developing an awareness of structure, among other skills. Each unit provides many activities to build up, practice and consolidate these skills.
Broad Goals for Level A:

* to provide experiences with forms of written expression familiar to young students (e.g., letters, notes, stories)

* to experience pleasure from creative aspects of writing

* to learn idea-collection and planning processes (e.g., brainstorming)
* to understand and use structure in writing different types of compositions
* to understand principles of unity, cohesion, and completeness
* to develop skills in revising written work for content and accuracy
