These 300 words make up 65% of all written English text, and they must be recognized instantly for efficient and fluent reading. Committing these Star Words to visual memory ensures a student won't have to sound out high-frequency words—a habit that would impair reading fluency.

The Star Words Timed Reading Practice CDs make sight-word lessons a fun and productive experience for students of all ages. In this software, the proud-but-lovable Ivan the Cat guides students through arcade-style games of word recognition. Three written words move across the screen as Ivan says a Star Word. Students must recognize and click on the correct word while the software records their speed and accuracy. A Bonus round tests word recognition within sentences, and a Coloring Book activity can be earned as a reward for good performance. The speed of the game can be adjusted to match the student's ability, and printable reports are available for the instructor's review.

Disk 1 provides the core application and the first 50 Star Words. All other Disks provide additional Star Words for practice and require that Disk 1 already be installed.
